Global and Local Drivers

Drivers are different factors that impact your financial outcome. This could be as common as the rate of inflation, or as specific as how much your company will increase employee salaries or push sales.

These factors are then used to drive your numbers through the years of your Brixx plan.

Drivers are available for use on the income components (Income, Subscription, Rental) and some cost components (Operational Cost, Employee).
They are used on a component by component basis, and the setting to enable drivers on a component are in the corresponding shelf

When you turn the Enable Drivers toggle on, you'll see several options to use Drivers on this particular component.

  1. Select whether this component will be driven by the Global driver or a Local driver
    1. Global Drivers are defined in Finance Settings. They are set once and will be usable on every component of that type by simply enabling drivers in the component and leaving the choice on Global (see below for more on the table in Finance Settings)
    2. Local Driver is set directly in the component. By choosing that button, the Global Driver for this type of component is ignored, and specific numbers to drive the component by can be entered directly in section 2.
  2. This table by default shows the global driver percentages for year 2 and onward of the plan. While setting 1 is on Global driver this table can't be modified in the component. If you choose Local Driver in setting 1, the table will change and you will be able to enter different percentages to be applied only to this component.
  3. The Local Adjustment feature allows you to add or subtract a further percentage or lump sum in addition to the Global or Local driver percentage. This setting applies only to this specific component.

Drivers in action
When you activate drivers on a component, they will take immediate effect on your forecasted numbers. They do this by means of the numbers table in the component used for forecasting.
The way drivers works is, the numbers in the first row of the table are the numbers you put in. This allows you to forecast your first year, or even enter the actual numbers from your prior year.
The further years in the table are then locked from manual editing (to edit them directly again, disable the drivers toggle) and updated immediately to reflect the new calculation.

You can see in the image how the numbers in years 2, 3, and 4 are increased by the Local Driver percentage and the added adjustment percentage.
It's important to understand that the drivers take effect from the start of your next financial year.

Global Driver Settings
In Finance Settings there is the Global Driver shelf. Here, you can set percentages for each component type. When you Enable Drivers on a component of the matching type, it will use these values for the Global Driver.
Modifying the numbers here at any time will change the Global Driver values for all those components if they are using them.
